Ten Things to Do on Father’s Day



Father’s Day is this Sunday! Celebrate this great man with all the things he loves to do on the Central Coast. And boy, doesn’t he deserve it! Check out our list of the ten top things to do with Dad this June 19th.


1. Hiking/Walking

Whether you want to walk in nature, run on a dirt path, or hike an incline, there are tons of options within 30 minutes of your door at Rice Ranch. You can find easy hikes for a quick break, flat hikes and trails with lush scenery. There are trails with rivers and views of the ocean, as well as routes through forests, over lakes and even some for off-roading. Most trails also allow dogs on-leash.



2. Biking


Santa Barbara wine country is famous for cycling, and draws thousands of cyclists to the area throughout the year. You may have seen various races, tours, stages and time trails here, on our scenic and popular routes. You can fun long, challenging rides and fun, casual rides with the family, with a large group or just a few on an electric bike through small towns and verdant vineyards.


3. Water Time

4. Hit the Golf Course


For some Dads, golf is at the top of his wish list for the day. 5. Do a Brew Tour


If beer is Dad’s thing, you’re in luck! Naughty Oak Brewing in Orcutt aims to provide you with high-quality beer that can be enjoyed in an environment that promotes community. They have a selection of 12 beers on tap, all crafted on-site, with more varieties coming. They do not serve food, but you are welcome to bring your own meal or order take-out to enjoy with your pint. Blast 825 Brewery in Orcutt is the Central Coast’s premier live music venue and family-friendly restaurant. They are local minded, craft oriented and quality driven. This handcrafted labor of love is brewed in small batches by Shane Piper with loving energy, sound-healing and kirtan music for a vibrant energy flow. They use fresh organic ingredients and local fruits when available. Kombucha pairs well with savory and sweet dishes.


6. Dad Needs His Wine

For the dad who loves wine, the perfect treat is finding some of his favorites. Find out what grape or blend he likes best, then buy some similar wines from around the world. You can even put the wines in brown bags and do a blind wine-tasting to guess where they’re from. Just add a cheese and charcuterie board to cleanse the palate and enhance the flavors. Or, make it easy and hit the Santa Maria Valley Wine Trail!


7. Fire up the Grill


A traditional way to celebrate Father’s Day is at the grill. Fire it up and do all the work, so Dad can relax. If he won’t let you man the grill yourself, be his assistant for the day and learn his way of grilling. 8. Lawn games

Get competitive in your own backyard by spending an afternoon playing outdoor games with the family, and don’t forget to bring your Olympic spirit! Turn your backyard into sports complex with cornhole, croquet, lawn bowling, horseshoes and anything else you have. Badminton, anyone?


9. Stay in and Watch TV

What are you dad’s favorite flicks? No doubt he knows your favorite movies and shows, so here’s a chance to listen and learn, by watching some of his favorites from days gone by. Or maybe you share a love of Star Wars or documentaries. You can find a cache of great content to watch together, and make a day or night of it.


10. Prime Rib Sundays


For some dads, Father’s Day is all about the beef. And if he doesn’t feel like cooking, head out to the Far Western Tavern in Old Orcutt for a classic steak dinner.
